Reference Librarian

The Ohio Township Public Library System is searching for a new team member to ensure our customers have an excellent experience working with our reference team and to provide community driven programs and services. OTPLS is a three branch library system serving the Ohio Township of Warrick County in Southwestern Indiana, which includes the towns of Newburgh and Chandler. The salary range for this position is $48,000-$50,000 depending upon experience.

Essential Functions

  • Help to ensure our customers, staff and community receive the best experience possible at the reference desk and in adult programs
  • Hire, train, supervise and evaluate reference desk staff, filling in when needed
  • Assist patrons with research, including searching the collection, ordering inter-library loan materials and using online databases
  • Select and oversee the collection of materials, weeding and inventory for the Adult department
  • Schedule, plan, promote and deliver programs for the community
  • Provide outreach programs for the community
  • Assist customers and staff with using the library’s resources
  • Promote the library, specifically adult programs, through social media, signage, etc
  • Provide promotional materials for the library and library programs to the local media
  • Be an active member of the Administrative team
  • Manage the budget for the Adult department
  • Provide administration with statistical reports
  • Maintain a cooperative and communicative relationship with other branches, staff and administration
  • Participate in conferences, webinars and other learning opportunities to stay abreast of library trends
  • Promote good communication and positive thoughts and actions for customers, staff and the community
  • Encourage and provide opportunities for staff development

  • Experience with library management system software, including cataloging systems and public interface systems

Education and Experience

  • MLS
  • Management experience
  • Experience working in libraries, adult services preferred
  • Must obtain the appropriate level of state certification within the Indiana State Library Guidelines
  • Physical Requirements
  • Attending events and programs outside the library
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Sitting, standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching
  • Use hands and fingers to handle books, paper, and technology

  • Lift and move up to 25 pounds
